Arrival Day - Moshi

Our driver will greet you at the Kilimanjaro International Airport on your arrival day in Tanzania and escort you to the Keys Hotel in Moshi. Depending on your arrival time you can enjoy browsing Moshi or remain at the hotel, enjoy a swim in the pool and rest as you prepare to start your adventure the next day. (Note: Meals not included.)

Day 1:   Moshi - Londorossi Gate (2,360 m) - Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,810 m)

Your day starts early with a breakfast at the hotel followed by a briefing from head guide and a 2-hour drive from the hotel (910m) to Londorossi Park Gate (2,100m). The guides and porters prepare and pack supplies and your equipment at the park’s gate and finalize all registration details. And you’re off! Your first day’s trek will take you through the rainforest until you arrive at your camp where your tent is setup with your personal belongings inside.  Trekking distance: 6 km (3-4 hours)

Day 2: Mount Mkubwa camp (2,810 m) - Shira 2 Camp (3,505 m)

You depart from Mti Mkubwa to the second camp through the Moorland zone, following the Shira Ridge. We begin moving into high altitudes and vast desert plateaus where you will see the first view of Mount Kilimanjaro unfold on the horizon. Trekking distance: 8 km (6-8 hours)

Day 3: Shira Camp 2 (3,505 m) - Moir Camp (4,160 m)

The route now turns east into a semi-desert and rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower. We leave from Shira to Moir Camp which is nested near enormous beds of volcanic rock and surrounded by rocky hills and cliffs. Upon arrival at camp you enter your tent which is already set with your belongings inside. Trekking distance: 9 km (6-8 hours)

Day 4: Moir Camp (4,160 m) - Barranco Camp (3,950 m)- Acclimitization Day

After spending a night at Moir Camp, we test our acclimatization on Day 4 with a trek to the base of Lava tower at 4,500 m. Following a short rest, we begin our descent through a scenic forest passing waterfalls that usher us in to the Barranco Camp. The camp is set in the shadow of the massive Barranco wall with easterly breezes often carrying misty clouds from the Barranco Valley. Trekking distance: 7 km (5-7 hours)

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3950m) - Karanga Camp(39,950m)

Today’s task will be the 150 m face of the Barranco wall. Realization of how hard the porters works will be realized as this challenging scramble provides quite the balancing act for our crew. We arrive at the camp for a well-deserved dinner and overnight stay. Trekking distance: 5 km (3-5 hours)

Note: For the 8-day trek, we add in an acclimatization day and have a slow and steady uphill hike as we enter the Artic Zone.  The temperatures become noticeably cooler, however excitement fills our camp as we make final preparations for the summit day ahead. Trekking distance: 4 km (3-5 hours)

Day 6 or 7:  SUMMIT DAY! Barafu Camp (4,600m) - Uhuru Peak (5,895m) - Mweka Camp (3,100m) Today we face our greatest challenge and meet the most rewarding point. We will have an early wake-up call at 01:00 hr for final preparations and a light breakfast before starting our trek to the summit. Spectacular views and a beautiful sunrise will warm the soul and strengthen the spirit as the iconic Uhuru peak is in sight. After the elation of a reaching the peak, we descend back to Barafu Camp for a nice break and celebration before continuing to Mweka Camp. Trekking Distance: 21 km (12-14 hours)

Day 7 or 8:  Mweka Camp (3100m) -  Mweka Gate
