Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
Upon arrival into Tanzania, you will be welcomed the Kilimanjaro International Airport by our Safari Manager who will transfer to the Paradise in Backpackers in Moshi. Here there will be a safari briefing and you will then have a chance to relax in the pool and get ready for your safari the next day.
Day 2: Moshi - Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, we depart and drive to Tarangire National Park, the third largest park in Tanzania and the “theater of the wild” in Tanzania. The park has a lot to offer in terms of wildlife and awe- inspiring sights of the gigantic baobab that dot the park. The Tarangire River is the lifeblood of this wonderful reserve and it ensures an abundance of wildlife especially in dry seasons. The park boasts lions, elephants, leopards, oryx , dik diks and a wide variety of birds.
Day 3: Tarangire - Lake Manyara National Park
You have the option of starting your day with an early morning game drive and then after breakfast we depart for Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara is a beautiful small park famous for the legendary tree climbing lions and many other large and small mammals. We can enjoy lunch at any of the numerous picnic sites in the park or, if you prefer, we can have a hot lunch at the lodge before returning for game drives in the afternoon.
Day 4: Lake Manyara - Ngorongoro Crater Tour
Following breakfast, we leave Manyara and drive through the town of Karatu en route to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After registration at the Loduare Gate, we drive up to the crater rim and make our first stop at the View Point. You will experience stunning views overlooking the crater floor before we begin our descent down the 600-meter walls for game viewing. If we are lucky we will spot all of the “Big Five” on the same day in this world’s largest unbroken caldera. Ngorongoro Crater is world renowned for its unparalleled concentration of animals and bird life and you will freely spot zebras, topis, elands, warthogs, hartebeests and many more.
Day 5: Ngorongoro - Olduvai - Serengeti National Park
We depart the Ngorongoro Crater after breakfast and drive to Olduvai Gorge where Drs. Louise and Mary Leaky discovered old fossils of a hominid called “australopithecus boisei”. This discovery led to the theory that Africa is the cradle of mankind which you will learn more about during a brief lecture on the discovery and theory. We then drive to Serengeti National Park through the Naabi Hill Gate where we stop briefly for registration. Following a picnic lunch, we will spend the afternoon on a game drive and then arrive at Simba Lodge for a delicious dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park
If you are an early riser, we can start the day with an optional morning game drive at dawn to see nocturnal animals retiring and the diurnal species waking up for a new day under the beautiful African rising sun. After breakfast at the lodge, we leave with a lunch box for a full day of game drives on the endless plains of Serengeti. Depending on the time of year, we may witness the Great Migration - the movement of over a million and a half wildebeests together with zebras and gazelles in what is the largest mass movement of animals on the planet. Other resident animals include the lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, topis, elands, dik diks, baboons and many more. Serengeti is also very popular for an amazingly large number of bird species. After a full day you will enjoy another night at Simba Lodge.
Day 7: Serengeti – Flight to Zanzibar Island
Again, you have the option of another early morning game drive at dawn or we can just have breakfast and head over to the Seronera Airstrip to take your flight to the island of Zanzibar. Upon arrival at this magical island, you will be met by our driver who will escort you to the Ocean Paradise Resort where you will check in and be left to relax.
Days 8 – 12: Zanzibar Beach resort Zanzibar
Kick back and enjoy your beach vacation! There are a variety of water sports /activities available at the on-site diving club on site, or you can just soak up the sun. Diving in Zanzibar can be arranged in advance or spontaneously at the resort.
Day 13: Stonetown and Zanzibar Spice Tour
You will check out of the resort after breakfast and we drive to the spice plantations of Zanzibar. At one of these legendary plantations, we get to explore the history of the plantations and learn more about the spices and fruits that were introduced to the island by explorers from the Arab world and Europe. We will enjoy a wonderful lunch and have a chance to taste a lot of local Swahili dishes. In the afternoon we head to Stonetown for a tour of this ancient town that was declared a world heritage site by the United Nation body, UNESCO. We venture down the narrow alleys and streets and see the cathedrals, Old Fort, House of Wonders and the Peoples Palace. This is a wonderful opportunity to buy spices and souvenirs.
Day 14: Depart Zanzibar Airport - Departure
Depending on your flight schedule and departure point you will be transferred to the Zanzibar Airport to take a flight back home. If you are flying out of Dar es Salaam or Nairobi, we will arrange a connection flight for you.
